Lynn Manning, Supervisor of Public Relations at CONSOL Energy Inc. in Canonsburg, PA believes The Challenge Program, Inc.’s award categories focus on basic principles that “we all should uphold in our everyday lives.”
The Challenge Program, Inc. is a unique non-profit organization that partners with business to motivate high school students both in and out of the classroom. This partnership creates good habits in students and provides business with tangible returns on their investment.
Since the 1800‘s, CONSOL Energy has adapted to change and maintained its reputation as an innovator and one of the safest and most financially secure coal companies in America. It operates the largest private research and development facility in the nation and employs about 8,000 people in six different states.
Lynn Manning encourages students to “always expect the unexpected” in their personal lives and professional careers. “You think you have a plan, and then life throws a rock into that plan,” said Manning. “It can be scary but you must be open to change, because you never know where you’re going to end up. The next rock could be the biggest stepping stone of your life.”
Students that aspire to be a part of this industry can succeed in many different areas. “There are so many opportunities in this industry from your basic office worker, public relations specialist, or an engineer; the list is wide and bright with many possibilities,” said Manning.
At TCP’s student assemblies, CONSOL Energy describes these careers and works with the program to encourage students to establish the work ethic needed to succeed now and in the future. CONSOL Energy sponsors the program at Waynesburg, West Greene, and Mapletown high schools in Pennsylvania and at Cameron High School in West Virginia.
CONSOL Energy strives to be a good neighbor where it conducts its operations. The company is pleased that through The Challenge Program, Inc. they are able to give back to their communities.
“The Challenge Program, Inc. changes the lives of students. It’s rare when you hear that your donation has literally helped someone change their life around. I am really excited about the program,” Manning said.
