Ferndale Area School District Teams Up with The Challenge Program & Northwest Bank for “Race for Financial Fitness”

On Tuesday, one local high school hosted a program to teach students money management skills. Ferndale Area School District paired with the Challenge Program and Northwest Bank to host a “race for financial fitness,” for students in tenth through twelfth grade.

The program allowed students to race through different stations and exercise their financial skills such as budgeting, credit scores, working with credit, and working with debt. Students were also offered prizes at the end of the race, as a reward for being financially fit.

“It’s very fortunate that we have something like this because not a lot of schools have it. And there is something we get to learn about,” says Ferndale senior Mikayla Baxendale.

“I think it was fun, because you know, that class right behind y’all, is the class where I learned how to do all that banking stuff, and it’s a great wait to refresh some skills,” says senior Rocco Harrington.

A program manager from the Challenge Program says that although the program frequently hosts events for students, this was the first event of its kind.
